Carpet Cleaning

Carpets serve both decorative and functional purposes. While helping create the image you want in your home, carpets are also good insulators and protect the feet from cold tile or concrete floors. With carpets, floors become more comfortable to sit or walk on. Carpets also reduce the noise your footsteps make and carpets with padding further enhance this feature.

The thing is, carpets can be harmful because they easily attract allergens, insects and dust and spread bacteria and pollutants. Regular carpet cleaning is important so you can have a sanitary and healthy environment and at the same time extend the life of your carpets.

Here are the most common types of carpet cleaning methods:

Hot Water Extraction Cleaning

Warm or hot water extraction cleaning is a carpet cleaning method that uses water with temperature reaching up to 1000 Celsius to remove germs and dirt. Using a carpet cleaning equipment, a mixture of water and cleaning solution is first applied on the carpet at high-pressure to loosen grime, dirt and soil deeply embedded in the fabric. The moisture, along with all the dirt particles, is then removed from the carpet using the machine.

Hot water extraction is one of the most effective carpet cleaning methods as hot water not only dislodges dirt but it also sanitises the carpet. The cleaning solution used is also composed of mild chemicals, so you need not worry about harsh residues being left behind after the carpet is cleaned and dried.

Encapsulation

Encapsulation involves the use of synthetic detergents or polymers. The cleaning detergents are applied to the carpet, either by using a rotary machine, brush applicator or compression sprayer. The detergents surround or encapsulate dirt particles and dislodge them from the carpet. The carpet is then vacuumed to remove the particles.

Encapsulation cleaning can be normally completed within a few hours as it conserves water and requires less drying time. These factors are the reason this method is recommended for areas with high foot traffic.

Bonnet Cleaning

Bonnet cleaning is a carpet cleaning technique that is similar to buffing floors. A cleaning solution is applied to the carpet and then the surface is cleaned using a rotary machine with a spinning pad to absorb moisture and dirt. After the soil attaches itself on the pad, the pad is replaced with a clean one. Bonnet cleaning involves little water and can dry quickly, making it a popular cleaning method in hotels.

Dry Foam

Dry foam cleaning is similar to carpet shampooing but it uses low moisture. Before dry foam cleaning, the carpet is first vacuumed and spot-cleaned to remove spots and stains. A mixture of water and shampoo is placed in a dry foam carpet cleaning machine and the machine’s compressor converts the mixture into foam. The revolving brush of the cleaning machine distributes the foam and cleans the surface of the carpet. Once the foam is dry, the carpet is once again vacuumed to remove remaining dirt.

Regular carpet cleaning is a must in every household. Now that you are familiar with the different types of cleaning methods available, but not sure which one to use, you can hire the services of carpet cleaning professionals in order to decide which one will work for your carpet.
