Carpets are an essential part of the home because they add warmth and comfort. However, they trap dirt, fur, hair, and other harmful elements. Since they are placed on the floor, they are subject to all the possible wear, tear, and accidents, especially when you have young children or pets.

The homes of young singles are not that safe as well. The spilt wine from the post-office party and the accidental beef stew spillage—the carpets are always in peril. While nothing will beat reliable professional carpet and upholstery cleaners, you can’t call them every time there is a carpet-related mishap. Here are some carpet cleaning hacks to tide you over until the pros come along.

Formulate your own deep-clean carpet cleaner

There are many carpet cleaning solutions that you can buy, but you do not have any control over the chemicals and ingredients that are included. Some of them may be hazardous to your health without you knowing it. You must remember that you, your children, and your pets always have contact with the carpet.

Experts from the DIY industry have suggested a deep clean carpet cleaning solution. This way, you know exactly what you’re dealing with. These ingredients can help you make a deep cleansing solution that can actually work with your carpet cleaning machine.

These are the items that you need:

    1. ¾ cup of hydrogen peroxide
    2. ¼ cup of white vinegar
    3. 2 tablespoons of dish soap
    4. 5 drops of essential oils
    5. 2 tablespoons of fabric softener
    6. One gallon of hot water

Spot Treatment Solution

The simple stain remover is a combination of baking soda and vinegar, which effectively removes stains. This solution will provide ample carbon dioxide, which will have a light, sizzling, bubbly effect. For tougher stains, use lemon juice and hydrogen peroxide. The acid in the mixture loosens the tough stains, and eventually, you can remove it easily.

How to Clean Urine

Your pet is your best friend, but it is still a furry critter that can sometimes have a lapse in its training. Not all pets can be trained to pee on the toilet. Some of them need to be taken outside. If you are not present or unable to take your fur baby outside, then it might have no choice but to pee on the carpet.

When the inevitable has happened, the best thing to do is to clean it up as soon as it hits the carpet and while it is still wet. If it dries, then you are faced with a urine odour. It sticks to the carpet fibres, and you have no choice but to take more complicated solutions.

You can also place a towel or paper towels to absorb the urine. Press hard or stand on them so that they can absorb the urine. You will need a solution consisting of:

    1. 2 cups of vinegar
    2. 2 cups of warm water
    3. 4 tablespoons of baking soda

Spray the solution onto the soiled area, and let it stay for about 10 minutes. Use a soft cloth to blot it dry. Increase the vinegar to 50% of the total solution if the stain is heavy.

Carpet emergencies will always happen because life happens. No matter how much we avoid it, something will always fall. It is a good thing that there are quick fixes wherein common household ingredients are the solution.
